Living for Christ on Campus ft. Asiah Angelle

The moment I received an email to write on this topic, my mind began to race. I was extremely honored, excited, and awakened.

While I try to exemplify Christ in my everyday life, there are certain things I do at school differently to not only show the light of Christ through me, but to show that i am a true follower of him and not just a fan. Keep reading to find out how I show the light of Christ in college.

1. SMILE.
It may seem hard to keep a positive attitude, or a smile on your face when you have five homework assignments, two test to study for, a paper to write and all the personal things you have going on at home. I get it, I totally get it. In the midst of it all we have to remember to trust God. When we rely on God and trust him fully, stress leaves our vocabulary, and its easier to smile. Have you ever walked around your campus and noticed that a lot of people that are walking alone are not smiling? That is why YOU must smile. Let them see something different in you. While the world may categorize you are weird for smiling at strangers, you never know the power behind a smile. A simple smile could start a conversation, make someones day, and even give you a witnessing opportunity in the future. Never underestimate the power of a smile.

2.LISTEN
If you're anything like me, you try to find a group of people in your classes to study with through-out the semester. Normally through out the semester you grow close to the people in your study group. If you LISTEN you will hear them talk about being stressed out, relationship problems, or maybe even family problem. This gives you the PERFECT opportunity to say, "Hey, I'll be praying for you" or "Hey i'll be praying for your family". Even if you can't find the words to say, be a listening ear. Genuinely listen to what your classmates have to say. Most people are so caught up in their own world that they don't take the time to listen to someone else, or they just don't care. As Christians we should be that person who listens and cares. Think about how when we are burdened and weary and we cry out to Jesus! Jesus LISTENS to us, and he cares. Those kind of people are hard to find. Be like Jesus, be an opening ear. Others will notice that about you, and will know something is different about you.

3.DONT BE AFRAID TO BE DIFFERENT
I'll be honest. I've struggled with this SO much. I want people to be happy and COMFORTABLE, around me. Well when you are walking with God, that alone sets you apart from others.
I feel like a lot of christian students feel obligated to laugh at dirty jokes or entertain ungodly conversation so the OTHER people don't get uncomfortable. It should not be that way! When we appear to be different and others see that we act, speak and walk different, that can be our BIGGEST witnessing opportunity. God called us to be set APART from the people in the world."Do NOT be conformed to this world, but be TRANSFORMED...." Hebrews 12:2. Us christians have to realize we are unfortunately going to make people uncomfortable, but we have to be OKAY with that. Sometimes when we get too comfortable, we allow our anointing and light to fade away. When we get too comfortable, we allow sin to get into our life. Learn to be uncomfortable, learn to be different, even when its hard. I'll share a little bit of how this concept has affected me THIS semester. In one of my classes I sit at a table full of super sweet girls, however we do not share the same faith. We have all became friends. I typically don't talk to much unless I am spoken too, around friends that i have not known for a while. So in other words, they do not know much about me. I have never mentioned anything about being a Christian. I don't believe we should push Christianity on people, trust me they will know your different, and eventually ask. Anyways we were exchanging "Snapchat" usernames, and when I gave one of the girls my username she said, "Aww man, now i'm going to have to watch what I post"! It took me by surprise, and honestly in that moment my feelings were a little hurt. I was sad that I was somehow being SET APART from the other girls. When I got home that afternoon, I thought about and realized the girl that had said that to me obviously noticed something different in me! I started getting happy! I didn't have to tell her anything, she just knew! I love to post scriptures and things of that nature on my snap chat so i'm praying that she will see those, and ask me about Jesus before the semester is over! That experience and others in past has taught me that even when it hurts even when its uncomfortable God may be working through me. As much as I love people and want them to be comfortable/happy around me, I will NOT lower my standards or beliefs. God is so good and works in mysterious ways. By being DIFFERENT, you are allowing God's light to shine through you in a MIGHTY way!

So even on the days that it is hard SMILE, LISTEN, and DON'T BE AFRAID TO BE DIFFERENT. When you don't what to say, God will use that Godly light inside of you to witness to the people around you. If you are reading this, I have prayed for you. You will do GREAT things at YOUR college campus!

"And we know that ALL THINGS work together for good to those who LOVE God" Romans 8:28
